Tower of God

Tower of God is a fantasy anime adapted from SIU's Korean webtoon, which has run on Naver Webtoon since 2010 and became one of the platform's first global hits. Its whole world is one building: a tower where every floor sets a different test, and whose top is said to give climbers anything they want. Twenty-Fifth Baam has spent his life alone in the dark beneath it, with one friend, Rachel, for company. When she goes into the Tower to see the stars, he follows her in with no plan, no power and no idea how the place works.

What sets it apart is that the tests are rarely about raw strength. The early floors play out like team games with shifting rules, so alliances, bluffs and betrayals matter as much as fighting, and Baam's first friends arrive almost by accident: the cool, calculating strategist Khun Aguero Agnis and the hulking spear fighter Rak Wraithraiser, who calls everyone a turtle. Kevin Penkin's orchestral score, used across both seasons, gives the Tower a scale the visuals do not always match.

The anime's history matters if you are deciding how far to go. Telecom Animation Film's first season (13 episodes, 2020), directed by Takashi Sano, adapts the webtoon's first part and ends on one of the story's most argued-over turns. The Answer Studio then made season two, 26 episodes aired across 2024 in two halves, Return of the Prince and Workshop Battle. It moves on to the webtoon's second part, set years later, where a changed Baam climbs under a new name with Ja Wangnan's struggling team, and many viewers found its pacing rushed and its animation uneven. No third season had been officially announced as of October 2026, and the anime has covered only a fraction of a webtoon that runs to hundreds of chapters.

Tower of God suits viewers who like puzzle-box tournaments and political scheming more than straight power fights, and who can forgive a sequel that moves too fast. It tops our list of anime like Solo Leveling for its floor-by-floor climb, and the two webtoon adaptations that followed it in 2020, The God of High School and Noblesse, are the natural next watch.
