About WIND BREAKER

Wind Breaker is a delinquent action anime in which the school everyone fears turns out to be the neighbourhood watch. Haruka Sakura, a friendless first-year with hair split into two colours and mismatched eyes, transfers to Furin High planning to punch his way to the top, then learns that its students now call themselves Bofurin and spend their days guarding the shopping street of the town around it. CloverWorks adapted Satoru Nii's manga, which has run on Kodansha's Magazine Pocket app since January 2021, and the anime premiered in April 2024. It is not related to Jo Yongseok's Korean cycling webtoon of the same name.

What sets it apart is the reason for every brawl. Sakura has only ever understood fists, and the comedy comes from watching him short-circuit when shopkeepers thank him, a classmate like Akihiko Nirei takes notes on everyone's fighting style, or the grinning Hayato Suo treats him as a partner. Director Toshifumi Akai keeps the fights crisp and readable, and rival gangs such as the Shishitoren are drawn as people with their own codes rather than faceless thugs. The comparison with Tokyo Revengers is fair on the surface, but there is no time travel here, only a stubborn kid learning to accept help. The honest catch: the speeches about trust and belonging arrive often, and some viewers find them heavy after the third or fourth round.

The anime runs to two seasons and 25 episodes: 13 aired from April to June 2024 and 12 more from April to June 2025, covering less than half of a manga that is still running and reached its 27th volume in September 2026. No third season has been announced as of October 2026. A live-action film, also titled Wind Breaker, opened in Japanese cinemas on 5 December 2025 with Koshi Mizukami as Sakura.

It suits anyone who likes a hot-headed loner slowly earning a family, with the cast of Wind Breaker characters doing as much work as the hero (Sakura's classmate Mitsuki Kiryu has a loyal following). That arc is exactly why we placed it in our list of anime like Naruto, as Naruto's journey with no jutsu at all. Two seasons is a short commitment, and the manga is the place to continue once you catch up.
