Kyouka Jirou

Kyouka Jirou uses her Earphone Jack Quirk to do things that significantly exceed what her classmates initially expect from it — and applies the same composure to both combat and the loudest classroom in the school.

Background

Jirou grew up in a musical household and developed her own serious relationship with music before she had a hero career to think about. At U.A. she is immediately positioned as the cool, wry outsider of Class 1-A — the one who does not perform her enthusiasms — until the cultural festival arc makes the actual depth of her feeling about music impossible to keep quiet any longer.

Personality

Sardonic, understated, and considerably more sensitive about the things she cares about than she would prefer to let on. Jirou's emotional economy is the inverse of the class's more expressive members — she says something once, plainly, and does not repeat it for emphasis. The things she does not say are usually the most important ones.

Relationships

• Katsuki Bakugo — she gives him less reflexive deference than most of their peers and he accepts this as a matter of fact; their interactions are oddly functional because of it
• Izuku Midoriya — a classmate she respects without needing to announce it; her directness with him is one of the quieter forms of care the series shows in Class 1-A

Role in the Story

Jirou represents My Hero Academia's quieter thread about what heroism looks like for people not driven by grandiose personal mythology — she wants to do the job well and connect with the people doing it alongside her. The festival arc completes this by showing that those two things together are already a complete story.
