from The Seven Deadly SinsPopular character
Meliodas leads the Seven Deadly Sins as a cheerful tavern owner and ancient demon prince who has spent centuries trying to earn a future he was cursed to never reach.
Originally the eldest son of the Demon King, Meliodas chose to side with the goddess Elizabeth over his own kind ten thousand years before the series begins. The punishment was double: he was granted immortality while Elizabeth was cursed with perpetual reincarnation, dying every time she recovered her memories of their past. Meliodas has watched her die more than a hundred times. In the current era he runs the Boar Hat tavern across Britannia and reassembles his disbanded Sins to face the Holy Knights and the Commandments.
| Ability | What it does |
|---|---|
| Full Counter | Reflects any magical attack directly back at the attacker with amplified force; cannot initiate — can only respond |
| Lostvayne | His sacred treasure short sword; allows him to create physical duplicates of himself, each carrying a fraction of his power |
| Demon Mark / Assault Mode | Unlocking his demonic power multiplies his strength and speed exponentially; the full Assault Mode suppresses his emotions as a side effect |
Meliodas presents as easy-going, perverse, and comedic in ordinary life — a persona that functions as armour around grief that has had ten thousand years to calcify. Beneath it is something both immovably tender and capable of complete violence, and the series asks a great deal of the character to hold both simultaneously without one becoming a facade for the other.
Meliodas is the series' mechanism for examining what hope costs at the longest timescales — what it means to keep trying after centuries of loss, and what it ultimately requires to stop assigning yourself blame for a curse you did not design and cannot break alone.
