Neferpitou

Neferpitou is the strongest of the Chimera Ant King's three Royal Guards — a cat-type chimera ant whose power is matched only by their absolute devotion to Meruem and whose existence becomes the axis of Gon Freecss's most devastating arc.

Background

Neferpitou was born from the Chimera Ant Queen's birthing process at a stage when humans were the primary genetic material being integrated, which produced an ant with catlike traits and extraordinary Nen potential. They were among the earliest of the truly exceptional ants, preceding the King's birth and securing their role as a Royal Guard based entirely on power. Their significance in the plot crystallizes around a single act: the killing of Kite — the experienced Hunter and mentor figure who had traveled with Gon Freecss. That act, and the revelation that Pitou was using Kite's corpse as a combat puppet rather than allowing him to die, drives Gon to a transformation the series frames as one of its most extreme and morally complicated moments. Pitou eventually chooses to use their healing ability on a human child rather than on the King's behalf — a choice that costs them their life and the King's protection.

Personality

Childlike in emotional register — genuinely curious, playful, prone to fixating on interesting things — overlaid on a capacity for violence that is complete and absolute when the King's interests are involved. They are not cruel for cruelty's sake; they are simply operating within a framework where the King's safety is the only value, and human suffering is an irrelevant variable. The scenes where that framework breaks — when they choose to help the human child at the expense of their own safety — are the most humanizing in their arc.

Gon's response to what they did to Kite is the series' riskiest arc, and it works because Pitou is an opponent with enough interiority to make the confrontation genuinely tragic.
