Ranpo Edogawa

Ranpo Edogawa is the Armed Detective Agency's supreme investigator — a man who claims a supernatural gift but wields nothing more exotic than a mind that simply sees everything everyone else misses.

Background

Ranpo lost both parents in an accident as a child and grew up under the care of Fukuzawa Yukichi, the Agency's director. Unlike every other member of the Agency, he has no supernatural ability — the power he calls "Super Deduction" is simply his own extraordinary perception and reasoning operating at speed no one can match. Fukuzawa, to spare him the social complications of having no ability in a world where abilities define status, encouraged him to believe otherwise — a fiction Ranpo accepted and never questioned. He solves cases that stump entire police departments in the time it takes him to put on his glasses.

He demands sweets, expects deference, and complains loudly about anything that inconveniences him. Beneath the performative arrogance is a person of genuine loyalty who takes injustice as a personal affront, particularly when it targets the innocent.
