Background

Hyakkaou Private Academy runs on a shadow gambling system where student hierarchy is determined by wins and losses, and students without resources are designated "house pets" — marking both economic dependency and social degradation. Ryouta was in that position before Yumeko Jabami arrived and disrupted the existing power structure through sheer enthusiasm for genuine risk. He becomes something unusual in this environment: a friend to Yumeko who is present for her gambling sessions and who provides a human perspective on outcomes she often evaluates only by the experience of the game.
