Sadaharu is the largest, most inexplicably docile space alien dog in Edo, belongs to the Yorozuya's Kagura, bites Gintoki Sakata's head on a routine basis, and is considerably more dangerous than the frequency with which he is treated as a pet would suggest.

Background

He is an Inugami — a divine dog spirit — whose immense size, cosmic origin, and theoretical power are in perpetual contrast with his role as the Yorozuya's mascot and Kagura's beloved companion. He was left in the custody of two young alien girls before ending up with Kagura and the others, and his attachment to her specifically is one of Gintama's most consistent emotional anchors amid the chaos. His habit of biting people's heads — primarily Gintoki Sakata's and Shinpachi's, on a near-daily basis and without apparent malice — is one of the series' running gags. It functions both as comedy and as an ongoing reminder that this creature is operating well below whatever power level he actually possesses.
