Shiemi Moriyama

Shiemi Moriyama grew up tending her grandmother's garden and barely knew how to interact with people her own age — and became an exorcist because the world outside the garden turned out to contain things she wanted to protect.

Background

Her childhood was largely defined by her grandmother's garden, a contained world of plant knowledge, care, and relative isolation from the social environments most children navigate. Her grandmother's death and the complications of that loss are part of what begins her story in the series proper. She comes to True Cross Academy without the exorcist training background most students have, entering as someone who genuinely needs to develop skills from a starting point. Her Tamer ability — the capacity to summon familiars — manifests through a connection to a Greenman spirit she calls Nee, whose plant-based nature fits her background in a way that feels earned rather than assigned. Her social discomfort is treated seriously by the series — she is not performing shyness, she grew up genuinely isolated, and learning to navigate relationships is actual work that receives actual attention.
