Taiju Ooki

from Dr. STONEPopular character

Taiju Ooki has no scientific knowledge and enough physical stamina to manually power a civilization — and in the stone world, those two facts make him exactly what is needed.

Background

He was Senku Ishigami's best friend in the old world — the person who was there from before Senku's brilliance had anywhere specific to go, who showed up every day without requiring the relationship to be intellectually equal. On the day of the petrification event, he was about to confess his feelings to Yuzuriha Ogawa when every human being on Earth was turned to stone. He was conscious for approximately 3,700 years inside his petrified form, counting the seconds that Senku had taught him to track, and when he finally broke free it was one of the first things to happen in the stone world. He found Senku shortly after, and together they began the project of rebuilding civilization from scratch. His contribution to that project is not analytical — Senku has that handled — but physical and moral. His stamina is extraordinary: he can sustain manual labor for periods that would incapacitate other people, which is directly relevant to processes like turning the pot of revival fluid over millions of times to de-petrify people. His emotional investment — in Yuzuriha's frozen form visible in the forest, in Senku's scientific project, in the people they gather — gives the Kingdom of Science's early period warmth that the series' intellectual content alone could not provide.

Skills

SkillWhat it does
Superhuman StaminaHis defining physical attribute — he can sustain demanding physical work for durations that exceed normal human limits; the series deploys this directly in processes that require prolonged manual effort and treats it as a genuine plot-relevant capability
Strength and Physical LaborHis size and baseline strength make him effective at tasks requiring brute force — clearing, carrying, operating early machinery — the kind of work that Senku's plans require and that Senku himself cannot perform at scale
Reliable ExecutionHe is given an instruction, he does the instruction, he does not stop doing the instruction until it is done or he is told otherwise; this sounds simple and in the stone world it is an operational capability that Senku builds planning around

Personality

Earnest in a way that requires no performance — he means what he says, feels what he feels, and acts on both without complicated internal processing. His love for Yuzuriha is straightforward and consistent. His friendship with Senku is built on the specific foundation of someone who cares about Senku without needing to understand him, and Senku's friendship with him is built on the reciprocal understanding that Taiju's value is not analytical and never needed to be.

Relationships

  • Senku Ishigami — his best friend and the scientist whose plans he executes; their friendship is the series' original relationship and its emotional foundation, built on genuine complementarity rather than the performance of closeness
  • Yuzuriha Ogawa — the person he was about to confess to when the world ended, whose frozen form in the stone world gives his participation in the revival project personal stakes that align naturally with its broader ones

Role in the Story

Taiju is Dr. Stone's argument that the person who builds civilization is not only the person with the vision but the person with the capability to execute it and the commitment to keep executing it. He is not a secondary character with less value than the genius beside him — he is the other half of what the project requires, and the series is explicit about this.
