Yamada

Yamada is the female lead of Smoking Behind the Supermarket with You, a twenty-something cashier at the Super S supermarket. On the clock she is all warmth and flawless service. Off it, in a leather jacket and gold ear piercings, she smokes out back with a customer who never recognizes her.

Background

The series keeps her past deliberately thin and gives us her present instead: shifts at a neighborhood supermarket, the same weeknight loop as everyone else in the story. She enters the plot from behind a register, as the clerk that Sasaki, an exhausted sales worker, quietly plans his evenings around.
