Background

Yuki is one of Hori's closest friends and one of the class's most socially central figures, though her own interior life is considerably more complicated than her buoyant exterior suggests. She navigates the ordinary anxieties of high school — friendship dynamics, unspoken feelings, the gap between how she appears and how she feels — with a surface cheerfulness that isn't entirely fake but isn't entirely complete either. Her friendship with Tooru Ishikawa develops from the slightly exasperated baseline of two people stuck together by circumstance into something more honest over the course of the series.
