Chifuyu Matsuno

Chifuyu Matsuno is Toman's most reliable constant — the vice-captain who fights with his head as much as his fists, and whose loyalty to the people he loves has survived more grief than most characters in the series even know.

Background

Chifuyu joined Toman's 1st Division under the command of Baji Keisuke, whose chaotic courage Chifuyu balanced with tactical calm. They were complementary in the way that produces genuine partnership: Baji charged forward without flinching; Chifuyu kept track of everything Baji didn't. After Baji's death at the Bloody Halloween incident, Chifuyu carried that loss and redirected his loyalty toward Takemichi Hanagaki — the time-leaping outsider who appeared determined to save everyone the timeline kept destroying. In Takemichi, Chifuyu found something he recognised: someone unwilling to accept the loss of the people he loves as inevitable.

Personality

Chifuyu is direct, steady, and disinclined to drama — which, in Tokyo Revengers, makes him something of an anomaly. His emotional intelligence is high enough that he recognises Takemichi's genuine commitment when others dismiss it, and pragmatic enough that he channels his grief into action rather than collapse. He is the kind of person who makes the people around him braver without raising his voice.

Relationships

• Manjirou Sano (Mikey) — the leader whose direction Chifuyu serves; understanding Mikey's darkness is part of what drives Chifuyu to stand beside Takemichi.
• Takemichi Hanagaki — his most important alliance; Chifuyu believes in Takemichi at moments when Takemichi doesn't believe in himself.
• Ken Ryuuguji (Draken) — another of Toman's steadying presences; the two complement each other's approaches to the gang's crises.

Role in the Story

Chifuyu is Tokyo Revengers' clearest embodiment of what loyalty looks like when it outlasts the person who inspired it. He does not follow Baji beyond the grave — he carries forward what Baji stood for, and finds someone new worth standing beside.
