Misha Necron

from The Misfit of Demon King Academy: History’s Strongest Demon King Reincarnates and Goes to School with His DescendantsPopular character

Misha Necron is Anos Voldigoad's first real companion in The Misfit of Demon King Academy — a quiet girl with sad eyes whose gentle exterior contains a truth the series reveals early and handles with more care than the genre usually allows for.

Background

She is introduced as the twin sister of Sasha Necron, enrolled at the Demon King Academy, and initially presents as the warmer and more immediately accessible of the two — where Sasha is cold and cutting, Misha is gentle and seems perpetually on the verge of something sad. The truth of her situation is revealed in the series' first arc: she is not conventionally a separate person but a Trace — a magical copy created from Sasha when Sasha was young, built to fulfill a contract their parents made. On Sasha's fifteenth birthday, the contract required Misha to be absorbed back into Sasha, ceasing to exist as an independent being. She has known this. She has always known this. What she has not done is allow it to make her present years into something other than her own. Anos, who has the perspective of the original Demon King reincarnated and the power to match, encounters this situation and decides that a being who has lived, felt, formed genuine relationships, and made genuine choices is real regardless of the circumstances that created her — and acts accordingly.

Powers & Abilities

AbilityWhat it does
Ice MagicHer primary magical specialty — precise ice and cold techniques that reflect her personality's stillness; she is capable rather than exceptional by the Academy's standards, which is the appropriate level for someone the setting has not positioned as a combat protagonist
Trace ArchitectureAs a Trace, the nature of her construction gives her a relationship to magical identity and form that is relevant to how the series explores questions of what a person is; the specifics are developed as the story engages with what Anos's intervention in her situation means

Personality

Gentle and genuine — the sadness in her eyes comes from knowing her situation, which she has accepted without bitterness because the alternative was spending her years in grief for what she couldn't change. She extends warmth to the people around her without conditions and is particularly responsive to kindness, which is offered to her less than it should be given what she is navigating. Her friendship with Anos is based on his treating her existence as valuable in itself rather than as a problem to be processed.

Relationships

  • Anos Voldigoad — the Demon King reincarnated who intervenes in her situation and whose subsequent protection of her existence is one of the series' most direct statements about what he considers worth using his power for; his friendship with her comes before his friendship with almost anyone else in the series
  • Sasha Necron — the twin sister she was created from and whose relationship with her is one of the series' central emotional developments, moving from the complicated distance of two people who know their connection is also a death sentence to something the series resolves with genuine care

Role in the Story

Misha is The Misfit of Demon King Academy's first case study in Anos's approach to the question of what constitutes a person worth protecting — the answer he demonstrates through action is that existence, experience, and relationship are sufficient, and the circumstances of creation are not. Her arc sets the terms the series returns to repeatedly.
