Background

He grew up in Kyoto as the fifth and youngest son of the Shima family, a household with deep exorcist roots and a reputation shaped partly by his older brothers. Growing up with Ryuuji Suguro and Konekomaru Miwa from childhood, he arrived at the cram school with a pre-existing inner circle that the rest of the class was joining around. He's pursuing an Aria Meister certification, which suits his tendency to work through indirection rather than direct confrontation — the discipline rewards the ability to recall and deploy holy texts in the right sequence, which benefits from a more flexible mental approach than brute memorization. He has a genuine fear of insects, which the series deploys for comedy against his otherwise unshakeable social ease, and an openly acknowledged obsession with women, which his older brother Juuzou described as making him the most obvious pervert among the Shima brothers — a title Renzou accepts without much distress.
