About Smokey
Joseph saves him from brutal, racist policemen, and he sticks around long enough to watch the battle against Straits. He also shows up at the end of Part 2 with Rudolf von Stroheim's cavalry. Smokey is initially shown with a pigtail in Volume 5, which mysteriously disappears in the rest of the series.
