JoJo's Bizarre Adventure

Adapted by studio david production in 2012, JoJo's Bizarre Adventure opens the door to one of anime's most gleefully unconventional sagas: the multi-generational story of the Joestar bloodline and the strange, supernatural forces that shadow it. The series begins in Victorian England with Jonathan Joestar, a good-hearted young gentleman whose comfortable life is upended when the ambitious, coldly ruthless Dio Brando is taken in as his adoptive brother. When an ancient stone mask reveals a terrible power, their rivalry escalates into a struggle that echoes across the decades. If you're wondering what JoJo's Bizarre Adventure is about, this is your entry point: part gothic horror, part martial-arts throwdown, all bombast.

What makes this show stand out is its sheer commitment to style. The direction leans into dramatic posing, saturated color, and hand-lettered sound effects that splash across the screen, turning every clash into something closer to a comic-book opera than a conventional fight. Beneath the theatrics runs a surprisingly sincere set of ideas: legacy, willpower, and the thin line between heroism and a hunger for power. The story's second half introduces Joseph Joestar, a wisecracking, improvisational hero who flips the earnest tone of the opening chapters on its head, proving how much range the first season packs into just 26 episodes. Fans rate it highly (a 77 on AniList) precisely because it refuses to play anything safe.

Expect two connected storylines: a Victorian tragedy followed by a globe-trotting, war-era adventure, both powered by the mystical martial art known as Hamon, muscular character designs, and villains you'll love to hate. Supporting figures like Caesar Zeppeli add heart, humor, and hot-blooded rivalry to the mix. So is JoJo's Bizarre Adventure worth watching? If you enjoy action, adventure, and supernatural stories that wear their weirdness with pride, then absolutely. Just know that it prizes bravado and melodrama over realism, and that's the whole point. Newcomers who want a roadmap to the sprawling cast can start with our character guide before diving in.
