If you remember one stop, make it episode 63: the Soul Society arc ends there and the first big filler block begins, which is where most first-time viewers stall.

Thousand-Year Blood War is complete: what changed in October 2026

Until October 2026, this guide had to end with "the final part is still coming". Not any more. Part 4, The Calamity, premiered on 25 July 2026 and ran ten episodes. After eight weekly instalments, the production committee announced on 12 September that episodes 49 and 50 would move to 19 and 26 October so the staff could polish the ending. The finale, episode 50, streamed on 26 October 2026, with TV Tokyo airing it at midnight on 27 October Japan time. Its title, "Death & Strawberry", is borrowed from the manga's first and final chapters, a full-circle touch readers will spot immediately.

The full split: Part 1 ran 13 episodes from October to December 2022; Part 2, The Separation, added 13 more from July to September 2023; Part 3, The Conflict, ran 14 episodes from October to December 2024; and Part 4 delivered the final ten. Japanese numbering treats the revival as a continuation of the 2004 show, so the opener also counts as episode 367 and the finale as episode 416, the last Bleach episode overall.

There is no filler anywhere in Thousand-Year Blood War, so watch every episode. The final cour does add anime-original material: Kubo promised whole sections viewers had never seen, and character designer Masashi Kudo confirmed characters who never appeared in the manga. Because Kubo supervised it and it expands the rushed final arc rather than padding it, none of it counts as filler, and it gives manga readers a real reason to watch.

Where to watch, and when the dub finishes

In the United States, Thousand-Year Blood War streams on Hulu; Disney+ carries it internationally, though availability shifts by country. The English dub of The Calamity started on 29 August 2026 and trails the Japanese release, with dubbed episode 49 scheduled for 23 November and the dubbed finale for 30 November 2026, so dub watchers have about a month to catch up.

What episodes to skip in Bleach? The full filler list

AnimeFillerList counts 163 of the original 366 episodes as filler, about 45 percent. The reason is familiar: the anime aired weekly alongside a weekly manga, so Pierrot kept catching up with Kubo and filled the gap with original stories. The good news is that Bleach's filler mostly arrives in long, clearly bounded blocks, far easier to cut than the fillers woven through our Naruto watch order or the scattered one-offs in the One Piece filler list.

The four big filler arcs

• 64-108, the Bount arc. An anime-original enemy faction arrives straight after the Soul Society arc and occupies 45 episodes. Episode 109 is classed as mixed, so pick up there; episode 110 is where Shinji Hirako transfers into Ichigo's class and the Arrancar story properly begins.
• 168-189, the New Captain Shusuke Amagai arc. The most frustrating placement in the series: it lands mid-way through the Hueco Mundo rescue mission.
• 228-266, built around Zanpakuto Unknown Tales (230-265). Two filler episodes lead in and episode 266 is a recap. This is the optional arc covered in detail below.
• 311-341, standalone episodes and the Gotei 13 Invading Army arc. The Invading Army story runs 317-342, but AnimeFillerList does not count 342 as filler: it carries Rukia's canon farewell to a fading Ichigo, so keep it.

The short interruptions

The remaining filler is easy to miss: single episodes 33, 50, 287 and 355, plus the short runs 128-137, 147-149, 204-205, 213-214, 298-299 and 303-305. The pairs at 204-205 and 213-214 sting most, because they interrupt the canon war. One exception: episode 299 sets up the Hell Verse film, so watch it if you plan to see the movie.

Mixed episodes: keep them

About two dozen episodes are mixed, meaning canon material padded with anime-original scenes. Examples include 8, 27, 32, 46, 109, 124, 190 and 206-207; treat episode 342 the same way. Never skip these: the canon content inside them is real story.

Is the Zanpakuto Rebellion arc worth watching?

Bleach's best idea is that every sword has a living spirit with its own personality, the same spirit that gives a Soul Reaper their Bankai (our Bankai and zanpakuto explainer covers how that works). Episodes 230-265 build a whole story around it: the zanpakuto spirits take human form and rebel against their wielders under a figure called Muramasa, so every captain ends up fighting the very power their strength depends on. The strongest thread belongs to Byakuya Kuchiki, whose clan honour is on the line when he faces the resurrected Koga Kuchiki in episode 252.

Our verdict: watch the Muramasa storyline (230-255, ending with Ichigo defeating Muramasa) if you enjoy the Gotei 13 as an ensemble, then skip the Beast Swords episodes (256-265), which recycle the premise with far less at stake. Canon never refers back to it. One tip: in broadcast order it arrives just as the battle for Karakura heats up, so consider saving it until after episode 310 to keep the war unbroken.

Do I need to watch old Bleach before Thousand-Year Blood War?

Yes. Thousand-Year Blood War opens with manga chapter 480, the chapter immediately after the Lost Agent arc that closes the 2004 series at episode 366. It does not stop to re-explain the world. It assumes you know the 13 captains, Ichigo Kurosaki's inner Hollow, what happened between Soul Society and Sousuke Aizen, and why Uryu Ishida's Quincy heritage matters, because the Quincy are the entire war. Starting with the revival because it looks better is the classic mistake: its opening episodes kill and humble characters whose weight comes from 300 earlier episodes.

How far back do you need to go? Ideally the whole canon path above. If you are short on time, the non-negotiable stretches are the Soul Society arc (1-63), the canon Arrancar and Hueco Mundo episodes through 310, and the Lost Agent arc (342-366).

The Lost Agent arc is the one viewers are most tempted to drop, because it looks like a quiet epilogue after Aizen's defeat. Don't. Ichigo spends it without his Soul Reaper powers, and the way he gets them back, including the return of Rukia Kuchiki, is the emotional starting line Thousand-Year Blood War runs from.

Bleach movies in order: where the four films fit

All four films are anime-original side stories, released in December between 2006 and 2010. None is required. Guides disagree on exact placements, so these are safe slots that spoil nothing:

• Memories of Nobody (16 December 2006). Ichigo and Rukia meet Senna, a mysterious Soul Reaper, as ghostly Blanks appear in Karakura Town. Most guides, MyAnimeList's series guide among them, slot it after episode 109.
• The DiamondDust Rebellion (22 December 2007). Toshiro Hitsugaya is branded a traitor after the King's Seal is stolen on his watch. Watch after episode 137.
• Fade to Black (13 December 2008). Rukia is wiped from everyone's memory except Ichigo's, and he heads to Soul Society to find her. Also after 137.
• Hell Verse (4 December 2010). Ichigo goes into Hell after his sister Yuzu is taken there. Watch episode 299 first. Kubo personally oversaw its production, which makes it the most official-feeling film, but its story sits outside the manga's continuity, so it is not canon either.

Where the Bleach manga ends, and what is left

Kubo's manga ran in Weekly Shonen Jump for 15 years and ended on 22 August 2016, with the final chapter numbered 686 and the series collected in 74 volumes. Thousand-Year Blood War adapts it to the last page, so unlike most long shonen there is no manga ahead of the anime any more. The one open door is Hell: Kubo's 2021 one-shot, No Breaths From Hell, set after the war, teased a story there. As of October 2026, no Hell arc anime has been announced; the finale aired without one.
