Mitsuri Kanroji is Demon Slayer's Love Hashira — a fighter whose impossibly flexible body and distinctive breathing style were born from the same source as her greatest personal struggle: the determination to be accepted as she is.

Background

Born with a muscle density eight times greater than an average person's and naturally pink-green hair, Mitsuri spent years of her childhood trying to make herself smaller and more conventional — dyeing her hair, eating less, attempting the quiet invisibility that her unusual appearance denied her. She eventually accepted that she could not change what she was and decided to use it instead. She joined the Demon Slayer Corps with a practical motivation she was open about: she wanted to find a husband stronger than herself. The Love Hashira designation followed from her ability to develop a derivative breathing style optimised for her unique physiology, using a whip-thin blade that would be useless in anyone else's hands. Her warmth and emotional openness, often played for comedy, are genuine — and her combat performance against the most powerful demons the Corps faced demonstrates exactly how seriously the series takes her.

Relationships

• Kyojuro Rengoku — her teacher, the one who passed Flame Breathing to her and encouraged her to develop her own derivative; his death affects her deeply.
