1. Gyomei Himejima — the acknowledged strongest

This isn't fan debate — it's canon. Tanjiro observes it, the other Hashira defer to it, and Upper Moon One, a swordsman with centuries of slaughter behind him, calls Gyomei's body and technique the finest he has faced in three hundred years. The blind Stone Hashira fights with a spiked flail and axe (unique among the nine, no sword), unlocked his Demon Slayer Mark mid-war, reached the Transparent World, and anchored humanity's side in the final battle. 2. Sanemi Shinazugawa — violence with technique

The Wind Hashira brings two cheats to every fight: a Marked, war-hardened mastery of Wind Breathing's slashing storms, and Marechi blood so rare its scent intoxicates demons mid-battle — a living debuff. He's the only Hashira besides Gyomei to trade extended blows with Upper Moon One and live. His abrasiveness (especially toward Nezuko) hides one of the series' most tragic family backstories, paid off brutally in the final arc.

3. Giyu Tomioka — the quiet prodigy

The first Hashira the story introduces is also its most understated: Giyu created an entirely new Water Breathing form — the Eleventh, Dead Calm, which kills attacks mid-flight — and awakened his Mark against Upper Moon Three, fighting Akaza side-by-side with Tanjiro in one of the finale films' centrepiece duels. His survivor's-guilt arc (he never considered himself worthy of the title) makes the power feel earned rather than given.

4. Muichiro Tokito — the prodigy the numbers don't capture

Fourteen years old, two months from first sword to Hashira, and the only one of the nine to solo an Upper Moon — Gyokko, Upper Five, killed during the Swordsmith Village arc while Muichiro was poisoned. A descendant of the Sun Breathing swordsman's bloodline, he awakened his Mark youngest of all. He ranks below the top three on physical ceiling, nothing else.

5–6. Mitsuri Kanroji and Obanai Iguro — the marked pair

Mitsuri's sweetness hides a genuine anatomical anomaly — muscle density eight times normal — driving a whip-sword style (Love Breathing, her own derivation of Flame) flexible enough to defend entire battlefronts; she held Upper Four's true form long enough for the counter-kill. Obanai, the Serpent Hashira, fights half-blind with a kinked blade and his snake Kaburamaru reading attacks for him; in the final war he reaches the Transparent World and fights at the very top tier. The two share the Corps' most quietly devastating love story.

7. Kyojuro Rengoku — seventh, and it feels criminal

Rengoku's ranking needs the asterisk explained: he died earliest, unmarked, before the power-ups the survivors received — and still fought Akaza, Upper Moon Three, to a dawn standstill with a body already fatally wounded, protecting two hundred passengers without losing one. The Mugen Train duel (see our watch order for where it fits) remains the series' emotional benchmark. With a Mark? Top three, easily. The list ranks what happened, not what should have.

8. Tengen Uzui — flashiest, and honest about it

The Sound Hashira calls himself the flashiest man alive and backs it up with dual cleavers, shinobi explosives and a battlefield "Musical Score" that decodes enemy attack patterns in real time. He killed Upper Moon Six in the Entertainment District arc while poisoned, one hand gone — with Tanjiro's squad in support, the honest caveat that keeps him at eight. He then did the rarest thing in the Corps: retired alive.

9. Shinobu Kocho — weakest blade, deadliest mind

Here's the answer to the searched question: the ninth-ranked Hashira is Shinobu — the only one physically unable to behead a demon. So she rebuilt the job: a fencing-style Insect Breathing that delivers wisteria poison through a needle-tipped blade, killing what she cannot cut. Her final gambit against Upper Moon Two is the series' coldest long-game play, planned years in advance. Ninth in strength; nobody's ninth in importance.
