Shion
from That Time I Got Reincarnated as a SlimeFan favourite
Shion is the Tempest Nation's most fearsome warrior and most loyal secretary — an ogre-turned-kijin who would bring down an army for Rimuru without hesitation, and then politely offer everyone dinner afterward regardless of whether the cooking is edible.
Background
Shion was one of the six surviving ogres who encountered Rimuru Tempest after their village was destroyed — a meeting that resulted in Rimuru naming them and transforming their species from ogre to kijin. The naming gave Shion not just power but purpose: she aligned completely with Rimuru and began organizing herself as his personal secretary and primary bodyguard. When she was killed during an attack on the Tempest Nation and then revived through Rimuru's evolution, she came back with additional abilities and, if anything, greater commitment. She is simultaneously one of the most powerful fighters in a world filled with powerful fighters and someone whose dedication to secretarial duties coexists awkwardly with a complete inability to cook anything edible.
Powers & Abilities
| Ability | What it does |
|---|---|
| Supreme Samurai | Unique skill that massively amplifies Shion's physical output; she operates at extraordinary speed and strength even by the standards of named kijin |
| Sticky Steel Thread | Post-revival unique skill that can restrain and entangle targets with threads tough enough to hold creatures far stronger than a human |
| Thought Acceleration | Dramatically accelerates cognitive processing in combat, allowing Shion to respond to opponents whose speed would otherwise outpace her reaction time |
| Oni God Mode | A state of maximized output that pushes her combat power to its ceiling; reserved for opponents who actually require it, which is a short list |
Personality
Fierce, devoted, proud, and completely lacking in irony about any of it. Shion loves Rimuru with a sincerity that needs no qualification, fights with total commitment, and genuinely believes her cooking is an asset to the nation despite overwhelming evidence to the contrary. She is not oblivious — she is aware of social nuance and manages administrative duties competently — but she has decided that her feelings are correct and operates accordingly. That confidence is part of what makes her funny and, in combat, genuinely frightening.
Relationships
- Rimuru Tempest — the person she chose to follow and rebuild herself around; her loyalty is absolute but not blind — she trusts him because she watched him earn it
- Shuna — the counterpart to Shion's power in Tempest's inner circle; where Shion is the sword, Shuna is something more like a compass, and they function as complementary aspects of Rimuru's closest advisors
Role in the Story
Shion anchors That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime's argument that power and devotion aren't diminished by warmth or comedy. Her arc from survivor to secretary to one of the nation's keystones tracks the series' larger theme about what community actually builds. She is also the story's most effective running joke, and the fact that the cooking gag never stops being funny while she never stops being terrifying says something about the series' tonal range.
