Gachiakuta is the Bones Film anime of Kei Urana's Weekly Shonen Magazine manga, a 2025 series about a boy thrown away with the rubbish who learns to fight back with it. Rudo scavenges in the slums of a floating city until he is falsely blamed for the death of Regto, the man who raised him, and dropped into the Pit, the dump beneath the city. There Enjin brings him into the Cleaners, who hunt Trash Beasts, and Rudo learns he is a Giver, able to wake a battered object up as a Vital Instrument.
Urana has said the story grew from a favourite pen that broke when she was a child, fitting a series where weapons run on feeling. Graffiti artist Hideyoshi Ando shares the manga's credit, designing its graffiti and checking its street-culture detail. Fumihiko Suganuma, a unit director on The First Slam Dunk, made his TV series directing debut here, with Hiroshi Seko on scripts and Taku Iwasaki scoring, and Paledusk wrote the first opening, "HUGs", at the creators' request.
Among the Gachiakuta characters beside Rudo, Zanka Nijiku fights with a staff he calls Lovely Assistaff and Riyo Reaper with a giant pair of scissors. Fair warnings: the early episodes take their time, the CG Trash Beasts split viewers, and the grime is deliberate, so anyone expecting the sheen of Bones's My Hero Academia may find it ugly. Crunchyroll's awards voters did not: it won Best New Series, Best Character Design and Best Background Art in 2026.
Season 1 is 24 Gachiakuta episodes, run as two back-to-back cours from 6 July to 21 December 2025. That adapts roughly half the manga published so far, and our Gachiakuta explainer says where to pick up reading. Season 2 was confirmed straight after the finale and a first-look video followed in July 2026, but as of October 2026 it has no premiere date or window, while the manga, paused since August 2026, is due back on 11 November. Crunchyroll streams it subtitled and dubbed across most territories outside Asia, plus India, and in the US the dub joined Adult Swim's Toonami in October 2026.
Watch it for shonen action with a grudge against the people upstairs. Fire Force fans should know Urana assisted Atsushi Ohkubo on that series. Our best anime of 2025 list ranks it fifth.
AniCodex doesn't stream anime. Check these official, licensed platforms; availability varies by region.
