2027 is the year the big franchises reload: Wit Studio rebuilds One Piece from chapter one, Shonen Jump's most hyped new sword series reaches screens, and Frieren returns for a third season. Every title below is officially announced as of October 2026, with locked dates where they exist, year-wide windows where they do not, and an honest "no date yet" for the rest.

Quick answer The most anticipated anime of 2027 are two separate One Piece projects (Wit Studio's remake The One Piece in February and One Piece Film God Valley in summer), Kagurabachi in April, and Frieren: Beyond Journey's End season 3 in October. Jujutsu Kaisen season 4 and Demon Slayer's Infinity Castle Part 2 are both in production but still undated as of October 2026.

The dated headliners

The One Piece: Wit Studio starts the voyage over

The strangest thing on the 2027 calendar: Netflix and Wit Studio are not continuing Luffy's story, they are retelling it. Seven episodes totalling roughly 300 minutes drop globally at once in February 2027, covering the first 50 manga chapters, which carries the crew as far as the Baratie and Luffy's first meeting with Sanji. Masashi Koizuka (Attack on Titan) directs, with Kyoji Asano on character designs, and Wit president George Wada has pitched it on tighter pacing without the padding the 1999 series is famous for. The Toei anime continues regardless, so treat this as a parallel entry point; our One Piece watch order handles the long version.

Kagurabachi: Jump's loudest new swordsman

Takeru Hokazono's manga arrived in Weekly Shonen Jump in September 2023 as an internet joke and became one of the magazine's genuine hits. The anime lands in April 2027 at Cypic, the studio behind The Summer Hikaru Died, with Tetsuya Takeuchi directing and Keigo Sasaki on character designs. The premise is lean: Chihiro Rokuhira grows up in his father's forge, loses everything, and keeps one enchanted blade to settle the bill. The production toured the first 20 minutes of episode one at anime events from summer 2026, a full year before broadcast.

Frieren season 3 and the Golden Land

Madhouse has confirmed October 2027 for a third season adapting the Golden Land arc, with Tomoya Kitagawa directing again. Season 2 was the show's shortest stretch by a distance, ten episodes against season 1's twenty-eight, and it spent them walking the party across the Northern Plateau to the edge of the Golden Land rather than resolving anything. Season 3 is where that bill comes due: the announcement visual put Macht front and centre, billed as the last and strongest of the Seven Sages of Destruction. Our Frieren watch order covers how Frieren's seasons and compilation films fit together. One quirk: Delicious in Dungeon season 2 lands the same month, so Trigger's dungeon cooking and Madhouse's elf road trip will share autumn evenings.

One Piece Film God Valley

Announced at One Piece Day '26 for summer 2027, this one covers the God Valley Incident: the battle 38 years before the present day that pitted the Rocks Pirates against Roger, Garp and the Marines while the world nobles watched. It breaks the franchise's habit of original-story films, because it adapts the God Valley flashback currently running in the manga's Elbaph arc, and Toei has timed it to the manga's 30th anniversary. A second film, One Piece Film BAAD, is dated to 2029.

The sequels worth clearing January and April for

Sakamoto Days season 2 arrives in January at TMS Entertainment under Daisuke Nakajima, sending Taro Sakamoto and Shin undercover inside the JCC, the assassins' own training institution, hunting anything that leads to Slur. Mashle season 3, also January, at A-1 Pictures under Tomonari Tanaka, picks up after Innocent Zero's defeat and adapts the Divine Visionary final exam, the manga's last arc. Shangri-La Frontier season 3 is the most precisely dated show here: 10 January at C2C, with a confirmed half-year run, twice what most sequels get. Wit Studio also brings back Yaiba: Samurai Legend on 9 January for the Kaguya arc.

April resumes The Apothecary Diaries season 3 at OLM, straight on from the cour that began on 2 October 2026, so Maomao's court poisonings carry on with barely a gap. Skip and Loafer finally gets a second season at P.A. Works the same month, four years after the first, and Silver Link brings back The World's Finest Assassin in January. Isekai fans have a crowded year: alongside KonoSuba 4 and Shield Hero season 5, Eight Bit is running two Slime productions, the Clayman's Revenge spinoff in April and season 4 part 3 in July.

Confirmed for the year, but not the month

Several of 2027's biggest names only have a year attached. Dandadan season 3 was announced in September 2025, straight after season 2 ended, and Jump Festa in December 2025 put it in 2027 with Science SARU returning. One Punch Man season 3 part 2 finishes the season whose first half began in October 2025. Mushoku Tensei season 3 part 2 covers the Eris training arc, from volume 13 of the novels. Haikyu!! VS the Little Giant opens in Japanese cinemas during 2027, with Susumu Mitsunaka writing and directing at Production I.G, building to the Little Giant showdown: Hinata and Karasuno against Korai Hoshiumi's Kamomedai. KonoSuba 4 moves to ENGI, the fourth studio to handle the franchise after Studio Deen, J.C.Staff and Drive, with Takaomi Kanasaki back as chief director. On the donghua side, Lord of Mysteries season 2, subtitled Faceless, is pencilled in for 2027 at B.CMay Pictures as part of a ten-year plan for the novel; season 1 ran 13 episodes, season 2 is planned at more than 30.

Announced, in production, still no date

Spoiler warning: the next two paragraphs name the arcs these projects adapt, which reveals where their previous seasons ended.

Five big titles are real but undated. Infinity Castle Part 2 is the biggest: ufotable's own production reel filed it under future projects, ruling 2026 out, and as of October 2026 neither Aniplex nor ufotable has given a date. Demon Slayer is booked for the Jump Super Stage at Jump Festa 2027, held on 19 and 20 December 2026, the obvious place for an announcement. The 2027 and 2029 release years doing the rounds online came from an interview write-up that Crunchyroll said it never supplied and the outlet later pulled; our Infinity Castle explainer covers where Tanjiro stands going in.

Jujutsu Kaisen season 4, officially The Culling Game Part 2, showed a teaser at MAPPA's 15th anniversary event in June 2026 with no window attached. Takeru Sato steps up to direct with Shota Goshozono as chief director and Hiroshi Seko continuing on scripts, so Yuji Itadori's half-finished battle royale against Sukuna and Kenjaku's rules is in safe hands even with a blank calendar; our Jujutsu Kaisen watch order gets you caught up. Chainsaw Man: Assassins Arc, announced at Jump Festa '26, brings back Tatsuya Yoshihara from the Reze Arc film to continue Denji's story, though MAPPA has still not said whether it is a TV season or another film. Solo Leveling: Beyond the System is an A-1 Pictures film, a straight continuation after season 2 rather than a recap. Gachiakuta season 2 rounds out the group: announced, teased with a first-look video in July 2026, still unscheduled.

What is not on the 2027 list

Two absences get asked about constantly. Spy x Family has not been renewed for a fourth season as of October 2026, ten months after the third season's 13-episode run ended in December 2025; a franchise event on 8 November 2026 is the next chance for news. Omniscient Reader's Viewpoint has an anime in the works, but its widely repeated 2027 window comes from a game publisher's slide rather than an anime announcement, so we are leaving it off until the production says otherwise.

What 2026 actually delivered

Last year's hype list was mostly honoured. Jujutsu Kaisen season 3 delivered twelve episodes between January and late March, opening with a one-hour double episode and closing with an extended 27-minute finale, and it covered only the first half of the Culling Game. Frieren season 2 ran in the same window at a slim ten episodes. One Piece came back strongest: after a three-month production hiatus, the Elbaph arc premiered on 5 April as the first of two cours under a new Toei policy capping output at 26 episodes a year, a change producer Ryuta Koike framed as a way to keep the anime closer to the manga's pacing.

Elsewhere, Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War began its fourth and final part, The Calamity, on 25 July. Dr. Stone ended for good, its last Science Future cour running from 2 April and sending Senku's Kingdom of Science after a lunar rocket. Witch Hat Atelier delivered one of the year's prettiest debuts, 13 episodes from 6 April at Bug Films; Oshi no Ko season 3 ran 11 episodes to an hour-long finale in March; and Blue Box season 2 arrived on 4 October with Electric Circus taking over from Telecom Animation Film. Our summer 2026 sequels guide has the mid-year snapshot.

The misses are instructive. Infinity Castle Part 2 was widely assumed to be a 2026 release and quietly moved out of the year. Chainsaw Man's next chapter was announced in December 2025 and has gone ten months without a date. Dandadan season 3 skipped 2026 entirely. The pattern is consistent: studios chasing film-grade quality now announce a year or two ahead of schedule, so a confirmed title with no date is normal rather than a warning sign.

Key takeaways

  • The One Piece in February and Kagurabachi in April are the dated events to plan around.
  • Frieren season 3 and Delicious in Dungeon season 2 both land in October 2027.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the most anticipated anime of 2027?

The One Piece, Wit Studio's Netflix remake of the East Blue saga, is the headline release, arriving globally in February 2027 as seven episodes totalling about 300 minutes. Kagurabachi in April and Frieren: Beyond Journey's End season 3 in October are the other two.

When is Jujutsu Kaisen season 4 coming out?

No date has been announced. Jujutsu Kaisen Season 4: The Culling Game Part 2 is in production at MAPPA and showed a teaser in June 2026, but as of October 2026 neither a month nor a season has been given. Takeru Sato directs, with Shota Goshozono as chief director.

Is Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle Part 2 releasing in 2027?

Possibly, but nothing is official. Ufotable placed the film among its future projects, which rules out 2026, and no release date has been announced as of October 2026. The Demon Slayer stage at Jump Festa 2027, held on 19 and 20 December 2026, is the likeliest place for a date.

What big anime films are coming in 2027?

One Piece Film God Valley in summer 2027, covering the God Valley Incident from 38 years before the present story, and Haikyu!! VS the Little Giant at Production I.G. Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle Part 2 and Solo Leveling: Beyond the System are both in production without release dates.

Is Spy x Family season 4 confirmed for 2027?

No. The third season finished its 13-episode run in December 2025 and there has been no official renewal since, so any 2027 date you see for Spy x Family season 4 is speculation as of October 2026.

Which 2027 anime already have exact release dates?

Very few. Yaiba: Samurai Legend season 2 on 9 January and Shangri-La Frontier season 3 on 10 January are the firmest TV dates, with Madhouse's original film Ghost on 11 February and the Medalist film on 19 February. Most titles have only a month, such as The One Piece in February, or a season, such as God Valley in summer.
