Joseph Joestar is the main character of Battle Tendency, the second arc of JoJo's Bizarre Adventure, and the grandson of Jonathan Joestar. A loud, quick-thinking New Yorker, he fights the ancient Pillar Men using Hamon, cheap tricks and relentless improvisation rather than raw strength.
Background
Born in 1920, Joseph lost his parents as an infant and was raised by his grandmother Erina, Jonathan's widow. By 1938 he is eighteen in New York, treating street brawls as entertainment. The story reaches him through Robert E. O. Speedwagon, whose foundation uncovers a stone pillar in Mexico holding a body that should not be alive. When Speedwagon vanishes, Joseph goes after him and walks into a war his grandfather's generation never finished.

Raw output is not Joseph's strongest asset. His breathing is impatient and his form sloppy next to a trained user, so tough enemies survive strikes that should have finished them. What he has instead is speed of thought: how a body moves, which part of a room can be turned against someone, how long a fight can be stalled. Lisa Lisa's training later forces on him the discipline he skipped.
Personality
Joseph is loud, theatrical and shameless. He pulls faces, taunts in mangled English, flees a losing fight without embarrassment, then circles back with a plan. He cheats too: given a choice between a fair fight and a rigged one, he rigs it and grins. Under the noise sits real grief. He lost his family young, jokes his way past anything that hurts, and when someone close to him is taken, the comedy drops out of him entirely.
