Where cursed energy comes from

JJK's founding idea is that the monsters are self-inflicted: humanity's leaked negativity pools in places of concentrated fear (schools, hospitals, bridges) and congeals into cursed spirits — which is why civilians can't see the things eating them, and why curses grow stronger where more people suffer. Sorcerers differ from civilians in one respect only: control. They keep their negative emotions from leaking, then spend them deliberately. The series is blunt about the implication — Yuji's whole arc starts because a kind-hearted athlete with enormous latent energy is rarer, and stranger, than any monster.

The innate-technique rule is what gives JJK its texture: power is inherited, arbitrary and unfair — a lottery drawn at birth. The series' best fighters aren't the luckiest draws but the deepest refiners, which is why a technique as odd as ratio-manipulation (Nanami) or shadows (Megumi) can anchor elite careers.

Reversed Cursed Technique — the multiplication trick

Cursed energy is inherently destructive; it cannot heal. The workaround is arithmetic made mystical: multiply two flows of negative energy together and — like multiplying two negative numbers — the output is positive. That positive energy repairs bodies (Gojo regrowing from near-death, Sukuna restoring severed limbs mid-fight) but is monstrously hard to produce under combat stress, which keeps healing rare enough to matter. The elegant cruelty: positive energy harms cursed spirits, which is why RCT output is also a weapon against the right opponents.

Binding vows — power on credit

JJK's most quietly brilliant rule: sorcerers can trade with the system itself. A binding vow exchanges a restriction for power — reveal your technique's mechanics to the enemy and it hits harder; commit to an unbreakable condition and gain output no training could buy. Vows with oneself (Nanami's overtime clause), vows with opponents, even the "revelation" vow of narrating your ability mid-fight — all are enforceable contracts with real penalties. Black Flash — the perfect hit

When a physical strike and cursed energy connect within 0.000001 seconds of each other, space distorts and the blow lands at energy raised to roughly the 2.5th power — a Black Flash. It can't be done on command, even by the strongest; it's a flow-state phenomenon, and chaining them (Yuji's specialty) temporarily puts a fighter in genius-level energy control. Narratively it's the series' adrenaline mechanic: the moment the screen goes black-and-red, someone has touched the zone.

The exceptions that prove the system
