Monkey D. Luffy is the rubber-bodied captain of the Straw Hat Pirates and the heart of One Piece — a fearless, big-hearted dreamer chasing the title of Pirate King.

Background

Inspired by the pirate Shanks, who saved his life and left him a treasured straw hat, Luffy set out to sea to find the legendary treasure known as the One Piece. As a boy he ate the Gum-Gum Devil Fruit, turning his body to rubber — and never looked back.
