Ashiya Shirou was the Great Demon General Alciel, commander of legions — and is now the most rigorous household manager in a two-room apartment in Sasazuka, applying the full force of his military precision to the monthly grocery budget.

Background

In Ente Isla he served as the Demon Lord Satan's most loyal and capable general, managing both military logistics and the administration of their conquests. When they were forced to retreat through a dimensional gate after Emilia's advance, he ended up in modern Tokyo with Satan — now calling himself Sadao Maou — in a world where demonic power doesn't function and survival requires employment and a rent payment. He adapted by becoming the apartment's domestic authority. He cooks, cleans, budgets, negotiates with the landlord, manages household documents, and tracks expenses with the detail of someone who once managed armies and has redirected that capability entirely toward the question of whether they can afford this month's utilities. He maintains contact with intelligence sources from Ente Isla and monitors developments there when relevant threats emerge, which means the apartment that he keeps in military condition is also a small intelligence hub. He addresses Maou as "Your Demon Lord Liege" with complete sincerity regardless of whether Maou is in his uniform or a fast-food apron. His commitment to the Demon Lord's eventual conquest — which he frames as advancing through the restaurant's employee hierarchy — is performed with theatrical gravity and is also, in some deep and genuine sense, sincere.

His loyalty to Maou is sincere underneath the performance — when actual threats emerge, he responds with the seriousness of a general rather than the comedy of a housekeeper, and the series makes it clear that the two modes come from the same source. He is frequently exasperated by Urushihara's consumption of resources he manages and by Maou's cheerful indifference to the dramatic significance of their situation.
