Crestia Bell

Crestia Bell arrives in Tokyo as the Church of Ente Isla's chief interrogator and executioner, assigned to investigate whether the Demon Lord Maou has corrupted Emilia Justina — and ends up as his next-door neighbor, making him meals, and slowly running out of reasons to follow through on her original mission.

Background

Her official title within the Church's Investigation Commission is chief interrogator and executioner — a role built around absolute conviction in the Church's moral authority and the rightness of its methods. She crosses into the human world specifically because reports reached the Church that Emilia, the Hero, had been seen in an alliance with the Demon Lord, which the Church regarded as a serious enough deviation to warrant direct investigation. Her cover in Tokyo places her in the apartment building next to Maou's, as Kamazuki Suzuno, a new tenant. What she finds in place of the monstrous demon king is a part-time worker at a fast food chain who is, by every observable metric, conducting himself better in his reduced circumstances than most humans manage in comfortable ones. Her transition from certain execution to uncomfortable uncertainty is one of the series' most carefully developed character arcs. She arrived knowing nothing about Tokyo and has considerable difficulty with its layout, social customs, and fashion, which creates a consistent comedic contrast with her extremely severe professional background.
